Via glgroup, GLG has posted a analysis bout Adobe’s Flash Lite Vs. Microsoft’s Silverlight.
Adobe’s Flash player is pervasive. It is used by more than 95% of the internet sites. The Flash player can be downloaded over an internet connection on PC. The mobile version of Flash is called Flashlite. Flashlite was derived from Flash. The key drawback of Flashlite are:
1. It cannot be downloaded or updated over the air like the PC version.
2. Higher memory footprint.
3. Performance.
4. Integration with device functions such as location, sending SMS, agenda and contact book.
Adobe is now demonstrating downloadable flashlite player on Symbian platform. But, due to mobile devie platform fragmentation, it will take Adobe a large effort and time to penetrate large number of mobile devices and overcome above drawbacks.
Microsoft’s Silverlight product is more of a "me too" product that tries to replace Flashlite. So far, it has failed to gain any traction either on PC or mobile devices. Microsoft has decided to support Flashlite player on Windows Mobile. Their effort and traction lags Adobe and it is not clear if Silverlight will ever catchup to Flash.
